Looking ahead to the 2010 season

OK, so it all went a bit quiet at the end of 2009 but the new season is just around the corner. If you'd like to help with running the club then please get in touch with the club mailbox at Standard Life. We're in the process of setting up a few fixtures and booknig pitches just now. Depending on the level of enthusiasm (and the colour of your money) we may set up a couple of indoor nets before the season starts in May.

We have an early Insurance Cup tie against the Scottish Widows and have been drawn against Botanics in the Parks Trophy and Old Contemptibles in the Terry Newcombe Trophy so we'll need to be quick out the blocks this year after last year's rather dismal shownig in the Parks competitions. Keep an eye on the calendar for forthcoming fixtures and events.

Insurance Trophy shared for 2009

With us beating Scottish Widows then losing to Bank of Scotland and Scottish Widows beating Bank of Scotland comfortably earlier this week, we have decided to share the Insurance Trophy for this season rather than decide it with another round of matches or a net run rate calculation. The latter may have been invalidated by us playing retire-at-25 against BofS: the Widows wouldn't agree to this when they played BofS and so won by a fair margin, 160 for 2 versus about 75 all out.

We will need to consider the rules for next season. BofS do not seem keen to play without a retiral rule whereas we and the ScWids would naturally want to play a "proper" game. The competition may come down to just us and the ScWids once more, in which case it would make sense to me to play a home and away "final", with net run rate in force in the event of us winning one match each.
