For the social cricketers amongst us, a necessary evil is at hand. It's time for a couple of pre-season nets.
Nets may cause both physical pain and mental anguish as we realise the effortless strokes we've watched all winter on Sky Sports (if you're lucky enough to have a subscription) and imagined replicating as our own season rolls around, remain but a dream compared to the swish and miss reality. Likewise, for bowlers, there is less exploration of the "corridor of uncertainty" and more random distribution across a three-lane "motorway of mediocrity."
Still, if you're not playing regular cricket, an indoor net is a good way of getting the stiffness over early and re-introducing yourself to the rudiments of the game and your team-mates.
The net practices will be held indoors at Mary Erskine Sports Centre in Mary Erskine School at Ravelston on the evenings of Tuesday 21st and 28th April from 6-8pm. Your attendance is encouraged and will likely cost you around £4 per session. Keep an eye on the calendar for forthcoming fixtures and contact us if you are going to attend either or both net session.
